I’m Dave Patton, I’m 20yrs old, and I’m from Arlington, Virginia. I’m coming in as a transfer student from NOVA. While at UMW I plan on majoring in Geography or International Affairs.
Some neat things about me. I’m the youngest of 28 cousins on my mom’s side of the family. I have an older sister who graduated from American University. My mother is from Waterbury, Connecticut and graduated from American University in 1989 and my dad was born in Arlington, Virginia and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1977. Both of my parents worked at the Washington Post. My mom worked there from 1991-1999 and my dad worked there from 1984-2009. Unfortunately, in 2012 when I was 9 my dad died from stage 4 bile duct cancer. When I speak, I sometimes have a stutter when I talk. Some things I’m interested in are learning more about my family’s heritage, including my Basque heritage on my dad’s mother’s side of the family, My Scottish & German roots on my dad’s dad’s side of the family and both of my mom’s parents Irish roots from the 1800s. Some of my favorite sports teams include the New York Yankees, New York Giants, New York Rangers. I also enjoy following some international soccer teams including Athletic Bilbao, Celtic FC, AS Roma, Borussia Mönchengladbach. During the pandemic, I got myself into Australian Rules Football and I follow Melbourne Demons. I’m a huge Rugby fan, so I follow Ireland, USA, New Zealand, Romania, Georgia & Scotland. Lastly I enjoy listening to singers such as Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Rod Stewart, KISS, The Rolling Stones, Australian singer John Farnham, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson & many more. I love watching old movies such as Blazing Saddles, Zulu. It’s a Mad Mad Mad World, Monty Python, Looney Tunes & The Three Stooges. My domain is called liberty1788. I chose that name since all of my relatives that came to America from the 1700’s to the early 20th century came in search of liberty and a better life. I chose 1788 since I have a huge interest in Australian History and 1788 is when the first fleet arrived at Botany Bay, in modern day Sydney. My goals in this course is to learn more about why technology is so critical to the 21st century, how AI will either help our future or not. How to use tech safely and correctly. I think I’ll use tech to help me in my studies by using spell check when needed and using AI only if I’m allowed too and to make my work better.
